Fernando Torres describes ‘big feelings’ for Liverpool on return to his ‘second home’

Fernando Torres has described Liverpool as being "like a second home" on his return to the club.

The 37-year-old was part of the coaching staff for Atletico Madrid under 19’s on Wednesday afternoon as the Spanish side suffered a 2-0 defeat at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby.

Max Woltman and Jarell Quansah got the goals for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s team, with victory putting Liverpool second in their UEFA Youth League group.

Despite later seeing the first team inflict the same scoreline on his boyhood club, Torres discussed his long-standing affection for the Reds, upon his return to Merseyside.

“For me it’s always really nice to come back to Liverpool, where I feel like a second home really,” he told liverpoolfc.com.

“I’ve seen a few people that helped me from the first day, yesterday and also today at the training complex.

“I have big feelings for Liverpool, I had a really happy time here so it’s always a pleasure to come back."

Torres, who arrived at Anfield from Atletico Madrid in 2007, was later pictured with current Reds midfielder Harvey Elliott on Instagram, with the 18-year-old highlighting the Spaniard's hero status.

The former Reds striker also posted a message to Liverpool fans , prior to kick-off, where he said he was “really happy to be back” at the club where he spent three-and-a-half years of his career.

Signing for Liverpool as a 23-year-old, Torres scored 33 goals across all competitions in his debut season in England.

Having developed a memorable partnership with Steven Gerrard, his 14 league goals the following year contributed towards a title challenge for the Reds under Rafa Benitez.

The striker would eventually leave to join Chelsea for £50m in January 2011, then a British transfer record, before re-joining Atletico Madrid towards the end of his playing days.
