Fernando Torres admits he did not feel the same warmth at Chelsea as he did at Liverpool.
The Spanish striker moved to Stamford Bridge from Liverpool in January 2011 for a fee reported to be around £50m.
After the Blues had seen an initial bid rejected by Liverpool, Torres had handed in a transfer request to get the deal over the line, yet he struggled for form at Chelsea.
The 2010 World Cup winner netted just 46 times in 172 appearances for the Blues - although his last-gasp goal against Barcelona in the 2012 Champions League semi-final is etched in Chelsea folklore.
Torres has now spoken about the move to the Blues and said that, whilst he was keen to move to Stamford Bridge to win trophies, he never felt the same warmth he did at his Liverpool peak.
"Liverpool was the peak of my career. I arrived in a new city and didn't speak English," Torres told talkSPORT.
"Everybody liked me so much from the first day. I spent three and half years with the club. Only happy times, scored goals and won the European Championship with Spain.
"The relationship with fans and players was similar to Atletico Madrid. The players and supporters are really close and this is what I needed.
"I was ready when I left, though. When I left Atletico it was with the target of winning trophies. It was a difficult situation for the structure of the club at Liverpool. They were about to be sold. They needed five or six years to create that winning team. I didn't have that time.
"Liverpool was a huge club, though. But inside it was like a small family. From the workers and gardeners and the cooks. You could meet them every day.
"Chelsea was a huge structure and it was a bit more cold. It was still being built and everything was new."
Torres admits that he should have adapted to life at Chelsea quicker and that he was never consistent enough to justify his price tag.
He said: "Maybe it was my fault not being able to adapt quicker. I had really good moments but I was not consistent.
"If you are not performing, someone will come into your position. I arrived in a club like that in the middle of the season. I had a very bad first six months.
"Even if I was playing good after that, if I didn't score a goal the criticism would come. Maybe I didn't find the partnership I had with Gerrard, Xabi and Mascherano. It was my fault.
"I played really good football but I didn't do it every weekend. I knew that if you go to Chelsea, every year if you change the manager it will be a top club.
"I knew the difficulties of going to Chelsea. I thought it was the team that offered more chances to win trophies. I was right that they could win the Champions League. It was a great generation and finally we did it."
