Fernando Torres accepts Atletico Madrid request for Liverpool Champions League tie

Former Liverpool star Fernando Torres is present at tonight's clash between the Reds and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League at the Wanda Metropolitano, according to reports.

Jurgen Klopp's men are making a return to the stadium where they won the Champions League last June against Tottenham.

This time around it's a key last 16 first-leg match against Diego Simeone's side and there will be a special guest for the hosts.

Torres is back at the club he started off at tonight, according to reports from Spanish publication AS, who say that the 35-year-old former striker has accepted a request to be a guest of his old team.

The ex- Liverpool star, who usually keeps a low profile, is believed to be attending the game and sat in the VIP suite in Madrid this evening.

Torres returned to Atletico back in 2016 after stints at Chelsea and AC Milan. Whilst he loves Liverpool, it's safe to say the former Spain star adores his hometown club.

He said previously following his retirement: "Atletico Madrid is my life, so probably we will connect some way in the future but not immediately.

"I will not be back to just be a face... if I go back it will be for big things, to take the club to the next level.

"That needs time. I don't have the experience, the knowledge of managing, I need time to prepare myself for the biggest challenge."
