Fernando Tatis Jr., Wil Myers continue to hit as Padres down Giants, 4-1

SAN DIEGO _ The results have changed.

The San Diego Padres beat the San Francisco Giants 4-1 on Friday night and are 2-0 for the first time since 2011.

But since 160 games remain _ that 2011 team lost 91 times _ the most promising development of 2019 is that you don't want to leave your seat during a Padres game.

Doing so runs the risk of missing a Fernando Tatis Jr. moment or a Wil Myers line drive. Or even another extra-base hit by 36-year-old Ian Kinsler.

It was only a matter of time, too, until Manny Machado showed he would be part of the fun. He did so, after five hitless at-bats, with singles his final two times up Friday.

Tatis lined a double off the center field wall as part of a two-run second inning that brought Petco Park to life and jump-started the Padres, who also got another sterling effort from their pitching staff.

Joey Lucchesi allowed three hits and walked two in 5 1/3 innings at the start before Robert Stock came on to get the final two outs of the sixth. With that, Padres pitchers had set a team record with 15 scoreless innings to start the season.

Stock and Trey Wingenter covered the seventh and eighth to run the streak to 17 innings before Evan Longoria homered off Phil Maton leading off the ninth. Kirby Yates loaded the bases before closing out his second save with two strikeouts, with both third strikes coming on close pitches that had the Giants screaming at umpire Lance Barksdale.

Kinsler, who doubled and scored on Thursday, homered in the third inning.

And Myers kept barreling balls. He followed Thursday's single and home run with a first-inning single and fifth-inning double Friday, scoring after the latter when he moved to third on Machado's single and went home on Franmil Reyes' sacrifice fly.
