Fernando Ricksen was as brave fighter off the pitch as much as he was on it

Fernando Ricksen will be remembered for living bravely.

The Rangers legend, who died yesterday, bore his terrible illness with a fighting spirit.

He had motor neurone disease. It ravaged his body, left him reliant on a wheelchair and finally took his life.

Ricksen was brilliant on the pitch, and a force of nature off it.

His life was changed entirely when he was diagnosed with MND six years ago.

But the lust for life that marked out his footballing career was then put to good use raising money for research into this cruel disease.

There is no cure, but Ricksen spent much of his energy setting up a foundation and campaigning to make sure others might one day find one.

Other high-profile sufferers have helped bring this dreadful disease to wider public attention.

Gordon Aikman, who had close friends in the corridors of power at Holyrood, worked hard to get politicians to start funding research properly.

Ricksen never stopped either. He dearly hoped to be the first man “to get this beast on its knees”.

He didn’t live to see that day, but he ensured we are all closer to that goal.

Do scrumthing about the touts

Viagogo is at it again. The secondary seller is helping to keep touts in action ahead of a Scotland Rugby World Cup match.

How long does this shameless greed have to continue until meaningful action is taken?

The Record found tickets being sold for £363 instead of €85.

Viagogo were supposed to be banned by organisers, along with other international sellers.

The Competition and Markets Authority is rightfully feeling the heat
for failing to tackle this menace.

While the touts hoover up the cash, money is being wasted hand over fist in botched clampdowns.

This latest shameless activity is proof the CMA has fallen far short – and must start taking this seriously.

Sir Rod wings it in his big house

Sir Rod Stewart has revealed the secret of a long and happy marriage...

The house he shares with wife Penny is so big the couple never see each other.

That’s good advice if you live in a mansion.

We’re not sure how you would manage that trick in a two-bedroom flat in Cumbernauld...
