Fernando Ricksen's widow to release book part-written by Rangers legend

Fernando Ricksen's widow is releasing a book about his brutal MND battle.

Veronika Ricksen , 32, has penned The Final Battle which will be on the shelves in June next year.

Ricksen, who died in September aged 43 from the cruel disease , used a special keypad controlled by his eyes to help write the tell-all book from St Andrew's Hospice in Airdrie.

His biographer, Vincent De Vries, worked alongside grieving Veronika to pull the tragic tale together.

He said: "It won’t be a sad book - it will more fill people with tears of joy because he always kept his sense of humour.

"He wrote about Rangers and Scotland - about his life and hope.

"People will be able to see his fighting spirit.”

The Final Battle will recall moments from when Ricksen was diagnosed with the cruel disease six years ago till his tragic death, leaving Veronika and their eight-year-old daughter, Isabella behind.

Loved ones, football legends and fans turned out in their droves to pay tribute to the Gers star for his funeral.

The release date is June 22, global MND Awareness Day.

A percentage of profits made from the book release will go to MND Scotland.
