Fernandinho shows why Man City offered him a new contract with pre-season gesture

Fernandinho has welcomed three Manchester City youngsters to the club by taking them out for dinner over the weekend.

The 36-year-old signed a new one-year deal at City this summer to extend his stay at the Etihad, where he will continue as club captain this season.

After assuming the armband last summer, Fernandinho led by example on and off the pitch last season as City won two trophies and reached another final and semi-final. The Brazilian is well-liked in the dressing room, and is trusted by Pep Guardiola.

So it's no surprise to see Fernandinho use his role as captain to ensure that City's three new youngsters are settling in well as they get their first experience of pre-season.

Yan Couto and Pablo Moreno spent their first week of pre-season training after both spending a productive season on loan at Girona last year. Along with Fernandinho, they were among only eight players beginning pre-season at City as most players are still away following international duty this summer.

Also joining up this week will be fellow Brazilian Diego Rosa, who like Couto and Moreno, has signed for City in the last year. Rosa, 18, has been recalled from an 18-month loan at Lommel for pre-season only, as Guardiola looks to get a close up look at some of his new youngsters.

Couto has spoken in the past of keeping in touch with Fernandinho after an introduction last year, and the captain showed his class by taking the three new youngsters out in Manchester this weekend as they adapt to the city.

Posting a picture to his Instagram with his wife and the trio, Fernandinho said: "Weekend off, time to enjoy nice moments with lovely people. Starting with these top lads."

Rosa posted a nice response yesterday, saying: "Played with him in the video game and today doing pre-season together, thanks to God."

And there were also messages of thanks from Moreno, who posted: "crack on and off the field."

Couto said: "obrigated by all the teachings."

City are expecting more players back in training on Monday ahead of their first pre-season friendly against Preston on Tuesday. With a week of training under their belts, Fernandinho, Couto and Moreno are all expected to feature.
