Fernandinho says Man City have title advantage over Manchester United

Fernandinho believes Man City still hold the advantage in the head-to-head between themselves and rivals Manchester United.

United were able to add Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo to their squad this summer as they look to push on and challenge for their first Premier League title since 2013 this season. City on the other hand added Jack Grealish to their squad but failed to sign a striker as they look to make it four titles in five seasons after winning the league last season.

Because of their respective windows, many believe that United can mount a serious title charge for the first time in a while and even though Fernandinho believes the squads are pretty even on paper, he thinks that Pep Guardiola's side have the advantage of having been together for longer.

“If you’re going to compare name by name, I think it’s very level. Both teams have a very good squad. Perhaps one or the other will take a very small advantage," the 35-year-old told ESPN Brasil.

“But I think that due to the standard of play, the way we have played for five or six years with Pep, we have a defined standard of play, we know exactly how each player behaves or should behave on the field, we know about quality of each player and how he can play the best role in the matches.

"Without a doubt, in this matter, we have a little more advantage. Having practically the same players since 2017, it’s no wonder the club managed to win three titles in the last five.

“But without a doubt United, due to history, the weight of the shirt, the quality of the players, in a short period of time can reach the level we are at today.”
