Fernandinho reveals discussion with Pep Guardiola on Man City boss' future

Fernandinho has revealed that he has held conversations with Pep Guardiola over the possibility of the Manchester City manager taking charge of the Brazil national team.

Guardiola has enjoyed untold success since he joined City in 2016, winning the Premier League twice, three Carabao Cups and the FA Cup.

Next season will be the Catalonian's fifth year at the club, which is longer than he was in charge of either Barcelona or Bayern Munich and has led to speculation that he could soon move on from the Etihad.

Guardiola has always maintained that he is happy at City and wants to stay at the club but Fernandinho has revealed that he's had discussions with his manager about the possibility of taking charge of Brazil, though he believes it's very unlikely to happen.

“We once talked about it, but in a very informal way, more in an informal chat," the Brazilian told Globo Esporte, via SportWitness.

"But mainly because of the news that came out in Brazil which said he’d said he’d like to train Brazil. But I believe it’s a bit impossible.

He said he thinks Brazil and Argentina should always have Brazilian and Argentine coaches. We produce so many players, we have the capacity to produce great coaches. Within the more informal conversation I believe it’s difficult, but in football there is no certainty of anything.”

Fernandinho has become one of Guardiola's most trusted players having played 173 times for him, the eighth most used player in his managerial career, and the midfielder has also explained what it's like to play for him.

“It’s quite intense, in the sense of the amount of information we receive," he added.

"It’s really big. It makes us learn and grow a lot. All the players who had the privilege to work with him noticed this difference.

"The moment you start working with him and then stop, the difference of what you learn is a very cool thing, it makes you think and fall in love with football again, of wanting to learn more and more.”
