Fernandinho details Pep Guardiola conversations about taking over as Brazil boss

Fernandinho admits that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has considered taking charge of the Brazilian national side.

The Catalan is among the most sought after coaches in world football following trophy-laden spells at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and now City.

He has never led an international side but has already compiled his master plan to make the Samba superstars World Cup winners.

Brazil have underwhelmed on the biggest stage in recent times, but Fernandihno revealed that Guardiola has doubts over whether a foreign coach would be welcome.

He told  ESPN : “Pep said he wanted to make Brazil a World Cup champion and had an entire strategy to make us a world champion.

“But they didn’t want it, because they said that they didn’t know if Brazil would accept a foreign coach.”

Reports in the South American country have previously suggested that there would be a mutual interest in a partnership.

Brazil have not won the World Cup since Ronaldo inspired them to success in 2002.

The class of 2018 were knocked out in the last eight by Belgium in 2018 and Fernandinho is adamant his homeland have the capability to produce top coaches despite his admiration for the City boss.

He told  Globo Esporte : “Once we (me and Guardiola) talked about it, but in a very informal way, more in review. Mainly because of the news that came out in Brazil that claimed he had said that he would like to train Brazil.

“But I believe it is a bit impossible. He said he thinks Brazil and Argentina should always have Brazilian and Argentine coaches. We produce so many players, we have the capacity to produce great coaches.

“Within the more informal conversation I believe it is difficult, but in football there is no certainty about anything.”
