Fernandinho delivers bold statement ahead of Liverpool against Man City

Fernandinho insists Manchester City are travelling to Anfield with the intention of taking three points.

City haven't beaten Liverpool on their own turf since 2003 and could be without several key players.

Goalkeeper Ederson was replaced by Claudio Bravo against Atalanta on Wednesday and could join other absentees David Silva, Rodri, Aleks Zinchenko, Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane on the sidelines.

Bravo was later sent off in the Champions League clash meaning right-back Kyle Walker had to go in goal as City held on for a point.

But Fernandinho, who has been filling in at centre-back, is not phased by City's poor record at Anfield and is determined to reduce Liverpool's six-point lead.

"We go there and try to win the game," said the Brazilian.

"The mentality is always try to win the game, as we did from the first minute (against Atalanta).

"One man down, both keepers went off in different situations. I think that's the spirit of the lads, for sure.

"As I say, we go there Sunday and try to win the game.

"There's always a first time in the life, no?

"We are searching for this first time to win at Anfield. I am confident we can go there and try to win the game."
