Fernandinho agrees with Ederson after Man City bad-tempered draw with Porto

Fernandinho echoed the thoughts of his goalkeeper after Manchester City claimed a 0-0 draw with Porto to confirm top spot in their Champions League group.

Ederson had spoken ahead of the game about the improved situation he saw in front of him, with the two centre-backs bought in summer helping the team to be more stable defensively and not needing to rely on the likes of Fernandinho to fill in there..

The veteran Brazilian did come into the side on Tuesday but played in his more familiar midfield role, where he committed five fouls and then managed to further upset Porto with his post-match comments about the home team.

As far as the Blues are concerned though, Fernandinho agrees that the gradual improvement and solidity shown - this was their third consecutive clean sheet and Ruben Dias has conceded just six goals in 11 starts for his new club - bodes well as the team look to build their confidence up for tilts at the Premier League and Champions League.

Porto 0-0 Man City | Pep Guardiola post-match press conference

"Despite finishing 0-0, I think we played a good game, we controlled the game, we created a lot of chances and they didn’t have many.," he said. "They didn’t arrive to our box very often.

"I think it’s important to show that defensive consistency and the team has shown it’s growing. It’s important to get more confidence little by little. Securing the top of the group is definitely very important too. We are all very happy.”

Fernandinho is into the last year of his contract at the Etihad, and is still dreaming of adding the European trophy to his collection.

“I think it’s important to have dreams in life. We live every day with dreams and things we want to achieve, we go to bed with those dreams and goals in our head.

"It’s important to keep dreaming. Obviously, for me it would be really good to win the Champions League."
