Fern Britton mocked for asking if coronavirus is 'conspiracy to control population'

Fern Britton has been mocked for questioning if coronavirus is actually a "conspiracy".

The former This Morning presenter, 63, asked her followers if the deadly virus is actually being used to "control the population".

Taking to her Twitter account earlier this week, Fern said that though she believes "Covid is a real and dangerous virus" she is wondering how it is going to end.

She admitted that she is "not coping" with the pandemic and the tighter new lockdown rules that have come into force.

And she was branded "deluded" by her followers for her posts.

Fern tweeted: "I believe Covid is a real and dangerous virus running amok amongst the world's population and ruining the world's economy.

"However, if this is all a con to control us, what is the end game?

"This is an authentic question."

One fan told her they're "not coping" with how things are going and Fern replied "me neither".

Fern was criticised for the tweet, with one posting: "F**k right off. Anyone buying into this is seriously deluded."

"You are not seriously asking that question are you?" another tweeted.

A third said: "Trust me it is real. My sister (who isn’t old & doesn’t have underlying health conditions) is seriously ill in hospital with COVID on her lungs."

The Mirror has contacted Fern's reps for comment.

It comes after Fern warned her followers to stick to the lockdown rules.

"This virus is not going away anytime soon," Fern tweeted.

"We must be vigilant and assume we may be carrying it."

She added: "f we don't, the NHS will crumble, more and more people we love will die and our children will have their education, their future and their mental health destroyed."

Fern finished the post by reiterating the government's lockdown slogan.

"FACE HANDS SPACE," she said.
