Fermanagh police urge dog owners to take care during hot weather

Police in Fermanagh are urging dog owners to take care with temperatures set to soar over the weekend.

Highs of 28C have been predicted by the Met Office and the PSNI has taken to Facebook with some important advice.

They said: "Looks like it’s gearing up for another hot and dry day today.

"We are urging all dog owners to safeguard their four legged friends today from heatstroke.

"Please do not leave your dog alone in the car today.

"Many people still believe that it’s ok to leave a dog in a car on a warm day if the windows are left open or they’re parked in the shade, but the truth is, it’s still a very dangerous situation for the dog.

"The car unfortunately can heat up very quickly in a short space of time and can become fatal for our much loved companions.

"We have already received a number of calls over the past few days alerting us to dogs left in vehicles.

"Please be responsible and stay safe."
