Fermanagh musician who lost dad to cancer organising fundraiser concert in Enniskillen

A Co Fermanagh musician is organising a rock concert in an Enniskillen venue this month, in order to raise funds for a cancer charity which helped his family following the loss of his father.

Stephen Brennan, whose father John taught history at Erne Integrated before sadly passing way in 2013, has gathered four groups together for the concert for Cancer Connect NI in Charlie’s on 15 January.

Stephen, originally from Boho, will play with his own band Kid Ego alongside The Savage Rabbits, Anto and the Echoes and Dubh Lee.

The musician said he was grateful they can host an event in person this year, restrictions permitting.

“My dad passed away in 2013 and Cancer Connect were the charity that helped us with a lot of the stuff surrounding his illness,” Stephen said.

“We’ve been raising money every year since 2016, mostly music based things.

“Last year we did a Christmas live stream concert with a lot of musicians from around Fermanagh.

“This year we are running a live concert, with four bands on the night. Three of them are Fermanagh based and we’re very grateful that Charlie’s are letting us use their upstairs for the event.”

While Stephen now resides in Dublin, he added the support provided to his family by the charity was a ‘great help’.

“Cancer Connect would provide support to patients and families affected by cancer, and it would come in a number of different forms.

“They would provide specialised equipment for those suffering from cancer and then support and therapy for family members affected by it as well.

“They were a great help to us at the time and it’s a very worthwhile cause.”
