Fermanagh men to take on twelve peaks challenge in Women’s Aid fundraiser

Four Co Fermanagh men are due to take to the gruelling 12 Bens peaks in Connemara to raise funds for Fermanagh Women’s Aid.

Gary Donegan, Eddie Roofe and brothers Ciaran and Darren Fivey will climb the twelve peaks on June 4th, travelling a total of 30km and 3000 metres high.

The men have chosen the local Women’s Aid charity to highlight the work that is being done to protect local women.

Speaking to MyFermanagh, Darren said the friends wanted to give back to a local charity that performs important work.

“Eddie raised over £18,000 for Sands last year and we had the idea of doing one of these challenges every year for a different charity,” Darren said.

“We’re all married men with kids and we appreciate how women are in our lives and how important they are for our children.

“Our main motivation was to do something for people that aren’t as fortunate ourselves and we couldn’t think of a better charity to do it for.”

The lads’ levels of hiking abilities varies from regular to non-existent so Darren added it would present a big challenge.

“Hiking would be a hobby of my own and the lads did a monster hike for Sands last year.

"My brother Ciaran would be more of a fair weather hiker, but climbs electric poles for a living so it should be no bother.

“But we are all looking forward to it anyway and it’s for a great cause so that’s what it’s all about.”
