Ferguslie thump rivals Greenock as Taimoor Ahmad hits scintillating century

Ferguslie dished out a lesson to Greenock after destroying the local rivals on their home turf.

On a damp wicket and outfield at Glenpark, Greenock needed the conditions to play their part to topple local rivals Ferguslie.

It all started so well for them when, after winning the toss, they asked Ferguslie to bat and quickly reduced them to 14/3.

That included the prize wicket of skipper Riyaad Henry.

It took Adil Ghaffar and Taimoor Ahmad to steady the ship.

Adil accelerated the score to 88 before he was unluckily bowled by a ball that rolled for 41.

The stage was set for Ahmad to take the game beyond Greenock.

Supported for a while by his younger brother Uzair, who scored 26 before running himself out, Taimoor went onto make a 101, which, in the conditions, felt more like 150.

The stunning performance was his second hundred this year and put Ferguslie on to what would turn out to be a match-winning total of 240.

Ferguslie opened their bowling attack with spin and it quickly paid off as wickets tumbled .

The star of the show was Haroon Tahir, who demolished the Greenock batsmen with ten overs, six maidens, six wickets for just eight runs.

That included a rare event with a superb hat-trick.

Despite dismissing Greenock for just 49 to win by nearly 200 runs, remarkably at one point the home side were 18/9.

This weekend, Ferguslie are away at Stirling, who are fourth in the league and are one of only two teams to beat the Paisley side to date this year.

Meanwhile, leaders Clydesdale, who won again last weekend, take on third place Prestwick.

In a low scoring game at Meikleriggs, Ferguslie’s second X1 enjoyed a fine win over local Paisley rivals Kelburne.

Kelburne were all out for 80, with Qasim Khan taking three wickets.

Earlier, Ferguslie had scored 118 with elder brother and captain Hasan Khan top scoring with 37.
