Ferguslie Cricket Club players delivered a season to remember.
And now their star men have been recognised for their incredible efforts, which saw them lift the Rowan Cup and narrowly miss out on the league title in their final match.
At their AGM held recently, the club announced the winners of their annual cricket awards.
Captain Riyaad Henry picked up the first team’s batting prize having secured an incredible 728 runs, with Adil Ghaffer awarded best bowler having bagged 31 wickets.
In the second team Gavin Mories was best batter with 210 runs, with Qasim Khan best bowler with 19 wickets.
The third team’s best batter was Scott McIntosh, with Zia Khan best bowler.
Henry also picked up the highest partnership prize alongside Taimoor Ahmad for their incredible 240 total against Prestwick.
Young talent Uzair Ahmad meanwhile lifted the Frank Marshall award for best club junior.
Club vice-chairman Tim Preston-Jones said: “With Covid constraints 2021 was a challenging year for sport and cricket was no exception.
“Despite the constraints, after no competitive cricket in 2020, the players were extremely motivated for the return to league cricket.
“It was a very successful season, with the last day title decider being decided on last ball something that could normally only be believed in the movies.
“Our first team were gutted to lose the title by one wicket to Clydesdale after coming so close.
“The second team also improved in 2021 and finished mid-table and as hoped was an ideal environment for developing some of our younger talent .
“Equally, after a few years without a third team, we were delighted with our increased playing membership numbers to be able to field a third team.
“We also fielded three junior midweek teams again, with several juniors playing regular adult cricket at weekends .
“Both at junior and senior level - Ferguslie were delighted for all those who played representative cricket at varies levels and ages.”
The club are also delighted to announce Henry and Haroon Tahir as first team captain and vice captain respectively for the 2022 season.
Graeme Holmes will be second team captain, with Gavin Mories vice captain, while Andrew Baldacci will be third team captain.
The AGM also saw Preston-Jones take over as club vice president.
Ian Glassford will continue as president.
