Fergie was left asking "Where Is the Love?" after a widely-criticized performance of the national anthem Sunday night _ and now the singer says she was simply doing her best.
"I've always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA," she said in a statement obtained by the Daily News.
"I'm a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn't strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best."
Fergie, 42, was on hand Sunday night to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the NBA All-Star Game.
Unfortunately for the ex-Black Eyed Peas frontwoman, her rendition _ which featured questionable runs and improvised scats _ left many scratching their heads.
Multiple basketball players and stars in attendance, including Chance the Rapper, Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green and Jimmy Kimmel, were spotted smiling and laughing as Fergie belted her way through the tune.
Even Roseanne Barr, who once sang a notoriously bad rendition of the song, chimed in.
"Who saw Fergie's national anthem performance at the NBA All Star Game?" she wrote on Twitter. "I think mine was better lowkey."
Still, the singer did find some support in stars like Mariah Carey _ who famously had an on-stage meltdown on New Year's Eve in 2016 _ and Shaquille O'Neal.
"Dahling, nobody needs to listen to that," Carey told TMZ of Fergie's haters.
"Fergie, I love you. It was different. It was sexy. I liked it. Leave her alone," Shaq said, according to ESPN.
