Fergie admits she was left in tears after Princess Eugenie revealed new baby's name

Sarah Ferguson has revealed she was left in tears when her daughter Princess Eugenie told her of her newborn son's name.

Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank welcomed Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank on May 30, only revealing the news earlier this week.

The royal couple picked the name as it pays tribute to several family members, including Jack's late dad George Brooksbank.

The middle name Ronnie is in tribute to Sarah's late father Major Ronald Ferguson, who died in 2003.

And Fergie, speaking publicly about her new grandchild for the first time, described Ernest as a "seriously beautiful little boy" and said the gesture moved her to tears.

The Duchess, who is known to her now-three grandchildren as GG, said on the second episode of her Tea Talks podcast: "He's a very, very seriously beautiful little boy. Of course, everybody says that. Of course, he is. Doting granny – doting GG.

"He’s done very, very well."

She added of hearing of his name: "When Jack and Eugenie told me, it was so moving that they had put my dad in there. It was so kind, I thought. It made me cry."

Sarah added of Eugenie: "She said that I was allowed to say. Well, I have to be very careful. I get so proud."

The Duchess, who is also a grandmother to Eugenie's older son August and Princess Beatrice's daughter Sienna, launched her podcast, Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah, alongside Sarah Thomson, the founder of children’s newspaper First News, last week.

The new arrival is 13th in line to the throne moving the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward down to 14th place.

The newborn is also a 13th great-grandchild of the late Queen - and is the first one to be born since her death last September. He will not receive a title or HRH status as he is not a grandchild of the current monarch King Charles, who is his great uncle.

Ernest's birth comes two years after Eugenie's first born August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, who arrived at the exclusive Portland Hospital in central London on February 9, 2021.

His name also pays tribute to late family members - his great-grandfather Prince Philip, who died just weeks after Eugenie welcomed her son.

In a documentary in September 2021, Eugenie revealed August got to meet Philip shortly before he passed away.

Holding back the tears, Eugenie explained: "We named August, August Philip because grandpa has been such a huge, inspiring character in my life.

"I brought little August to come and meet him and told him that we had named him after him and it was such a lovely moment."

Eugenie and Jack tied the knot back in 2018 in a grand wedding at Windsor Castle - just months after the nuptials of her cousin Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Guests at the wedding included the late Queen, the Prince and Princess of Wales and celebrities including Robbie Williams and Ellie Goulding.
