Ferencvaros issue Celtic best behaviour warning as fans told of 'special attention' after England shocker

Ferencvaros have urged their supporters to be on their best behaviour when 279 of their hardcore fans visit Celtic on Tuesday night.

The Europa League clash kicks off at the bizarre time of 3.30pm next week, a move thrust upon the clubs thanks to the COP26 climate conference taking place in Glasgow.

And the Hungarian side will have a small away allocation for the third match in Group G.

But after ugly scenes marred England's World Cup qualifier against Hungary at Wembley this week, the reverse fixture in Budapest last month and during Euro 2020 fixtures in Budapest, Ferencvaros have told their supporters to represent their country in a good light.

In particular, fans have been warned not to perform their terrace tradition 'szívtől az égig' or 'heart to the sky'.

The gesture involves mimicking the action of taking your heart from your chest and throwing it up in the air - but has been taken in previous fixtures as being a fascist salute.

As a result Ferencvaros have released a statement warning: "We would like to draw the attention of all our ticket buyers to the fact that during the match, in the immediate vicinity of the stadium, any hand gestures that UEFA may interpret as showing Nazi sympathies or being an anti-Semitic gesture.

"The szívtől az égig arm gesture must not be done at all!

"As a result of the experience of the Germany-Hungary European Championship match and the Hungary-England World Cup qualifier, the behaviour of Hungarian fans - and thus the Ferencváros fans inside and outside the stadium - is being given special attention.

"We ask that no one respond to any provocation and represent the club and Hungary in an exemplary, sporting and calm manner, as FTC fans have done in recent years at home and abroad in all cases!"
