Fennell Bay Public student tests positive for COVID-19: school

FENNELL Bay Public School is asking all staff and students to self isolate, after NSW Health advised the school a student had tested positive for COVID-19.

The school told its families via its Facebook page that the school would be "non operational" on Wednesday for students, staff and visitors, to allow time for contact tracing and cleaning.

Lake Macquarie MP Greg Piper said he had been told the student was infectious on site from August 3 to 5.

"All staff and students are asked to self-isolate until you receive further advice," the school said on its page.

"NSW Health has requested anyone who has been unwell or if you develop any symptoms such as a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting or extreme tiredness to be tested at one of the COVID-19 testing clinics: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/health-and-wellbeing/clinics

"Further information about COVID-19 is available on the NSW Government website: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19

"The NSW Department of Education will continue to work closely with NSW Health to ensure the health and safety of all students and staff is maintained. You can find our latest guidelines here: https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families"

The school is one of several that has reported cases in their communities.

There have been three cases tied to Maitland Christian School, four to Lake Munmorah Public School, three to Morisset High, one to Jesmond Public and one to Shortland Public.

There are five cases tied to the University of Newcastle.

Hunter health authorities said on Tuesday that increasing case numbers mean they "can no longer provide individual case breakdowns" of the region's infections, as that figure jumped by more than a dozen.
