Fenerbahce hold talks with Arsenal star's representatives ahead of potential transfer

Fenerbahce are beginning to do the groundwork over a possible deal to sign Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil.

According to Turkish outlet Takvim, Fenerbahce's sporting director Emre Belozoglu was in London this week to find out what terms Fernabahce would have to meet for Ozil to choose them as his next club.

Ozil is currently frozen out at the Emirates Stadium, not playing since March and not included in Mikel Arteta's Premier League or Europa League squads.

But the noises from the German's camp suggest he is still unlikely to leave the club in the January transfer window despite his current situation.

Still, Fernabahce are eyeing a move with Ozil's contract set to expire in the summer, leaving him free to join another club, ending his eight-year association with the Gunners.

The 32-year-old is free to strike a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside England from January, though, and that's where Belozoglu and Fenerbahce are looking to weigh in.

According to the report, discussions have been held with Ozil's representatives and another meeting has been agreed with January fast-approaching.

Ozil is set to have a number of options ahead of his contract expiry, but Turkey could be of interest to him given he is a third-generation Turkish-German.

Whether a deal can be struck will likely depend on the financial side of things with Ozil currently on around £350,000 per week at Arsenal.

Given his age and lack of action this season, the German will have to accept a lower wage than that if he hopes to join another European club, but Fenerbahce will still have their work cut out as they attempt to strike a deal, particularly if there is indeed competition for Ozil's signature.
