Fenerbahce chief 'travels to London' to thrash out Mesut Ozil loan transfer with Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil could be on the verge of a move to Fenerbahce after the club's sporting director Damien Comolli reportedly travelled to London for talks.

Ozil has long been tipped for the Arsenal exit door after falling out of favour under sacked manager Unai Emery and then putting in some indifferent performances playing for interim boss Freddie Ljungberg.

And the former Germany international, who has Turkish heritage, may be about to join Fenerbahce on loan in the January transfer window.

Turkish newspaper Fotomac claims the Turkish club are 'very close' to reaching an agreement with Arsenal to take Ozil for the remainder of the season.

The report says sporting director Damien Comolli - who formerly worked at Liverpool and Tottenham - travelled to London this week to thrash out a deal with the Gunners.

There are believed to be a few issues outstanding, but the 19-times Super Lig champions are confident of landing the 31-year-old when the transfer window opens.

The deal could well suit all parties, as it would give Arsenal a chance to get their £350,000-per-week top earner off their books, while Ozil would get an opportunity to relaunch his career.

Ozil has played just 11 games for the Gunners so far this season, registering two assists and no goals.

He is contracted to Arsenal until the summer of 2021, but a temporary move to Fenerbahce could lead to a permanent switch at the end of this season.

With Arsenal expected to announce Mikel Arteta as their new manager ahead of Saturday's game at Everton , one of the first jobs in the Spaniard's in-tray will be to sort out Ozil's future.

In 2015, Ozil's agent said of a possible move to Fenerbahce: "If he were to leave then Fenerbahce would be an option. At the end of the day it is a huge club and I think Ozil would say yes to an offer if it comes down to it."
