Fence panels damaged at popular outdoor activity site 'so walkers can access site'

An area of fencing has been damaged as well as panels stolen at a private activity centre in Nottinghamshire

Police received reports of criminal damage and theft at the Walesby Forest Activity Centre in Walesby, 16 miles north of Newark.

On Thursday, May 14, officers said they attended and found the fencing which surrounds the perimeter of the forest to have been damaged and panels stolen.

The activity centre for children is not currently open, but the site is private and its believed the fence has been damaged to gain access.

In a post on Facebook, the local police force said: "It is believed that the damages are being caused to allow access onto the site by walkers in the area.

"It is clear from signs that surround the forest that the area is private property.

"The reason that access is not allowed is due to safeguarding.

"The site is used by many children attending the centre so access is not permitted for anyone else other than staff and authorised members of the public using the site for what it is designed for.

"We appreciate that the site is not currently in use due to Covid-19 but access is still not permitted.

"The thefts have taken place on the public path that runs up the side of the activity centre.

"If anyone has information on either the damages or the thefts, please report it on 101 quoting incident number 198-14052020.

"We will be frequently patrolling the site and the surrounding area and anyone found committing offences will be dealt with accordingly."
