Prominent feminist writer Julie Bindel has claimed she was "attacked" in Edinburgh yesterday (5 June).
The author had been speaking at an event on "Women's Sex-Based Rights" held at the University of Edinburgh's Moray House.
Ms Bindel claims she was "attacked" as she left the event. In a tweet to over 34 thousand followers, she said: "I took part in a really brilliant event tonight at Edinburgh University, speaking about women’s sex-based rights.
"I was physically attacked as I left the event at the airport. This kind of intimidation has to stop. The person that attacked me was a man."
A fellow panel member at the talk, Professor Rosa Freedman, claimed Ms Bindel was "violently attacked" by a "TRA" or transgender rights activist.
Later adding: "To be clear (Julie Bindel) is fine -- she was shaken but not physically hurt (the latter thanks to awesome security personnel from the university)."
However the person who has claimed responsibility for the incident on Twitter, Cathy Brennan, has said there was no violence involved.
Ms Brennan wrote on Twitter: "Because the truth of the matter is that I did not raise a fist.
"I attempted to push past security so I could speak face to face with a person who has caused great harm to trans people across this country."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said they were not aware of this incident being reported to police.
