Feminist icons Rosa Parks and Sally Ride turned into Barbie dolls as part of range to celebrate inspiring women

Two feminist icons have been reimagined as Barbies as part of a new range of toys designed to celebrate inspiring women.

The toy giant Mattel have unveiled doll versions of Rosa Parks and Sally Ride as part of its Inspiring Women series.

Parks was an American activist known who started the Montgomery Bus Boycott against racial segregation in Alabama in 1955.

Ride became the first American woman to fly in space in 1983.

The two new models were unveiled yesterday on Women’s Equality Day.

They join existing barbie dolls of Katherine Johnson, Frida Kahlo and Amelia Earhart, which were created for the collection and launched on International Women's Day last year.

"Both Sally Ride and Rosa Parks made the world better for future generations of girls," a Mattel spokesperson said.

"By celebrating their achievements with dolls made in their likeness, we hope girls will be inspired to pursue their dreams."

Amelia Earhart joined Frida Kalho and Katherine Johnson for the Inspiring Women series.

The spokesperson aded: "Women's Equality Day celebrates the hard-won achievement of women's suffrage and pays tribute to the trailblazers who paved the way for future generations."

Both dolls became available to purchase on Monday.
