Female youth on scooter taken to hospital after collision with vehicle

A young girl has been taken to hospital after the scooter she was travelling on collided with a vehicle.

The incident happened at around 6pm this evening on the Walkinstown Avenue and resulted in the road being shut down.

Dublin Live understands the girl is 12 years old.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed to Dublin Live that there was a serious Road Traffic Collision and a female youth who was travelling on a scooter was taken to hospital.

The youth is understood to be alive and no other injuries arose from the crash.

A spokesperson for the Gardai said: "Gardaí are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision on Walkinstown Avenue, Dublin 12 which occurred this evening, Wednesday 1st December 2021, shortly after 6pm.

"A female youth was taken to hospital following the incident. The scene is currently preserved while Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination.

They added that "investigations are ongoing".

From around 6pm, the Walkinstown Avenue, which feeds into the popular Walkinstown Roundabout, was shut down due to a "serious" crash.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and drivers were asked to divert from the route if possible.

Dublin Fire Brigade tweeted at the time: "Walkinstown Avenue is currently closed to road users after a serious road traffic collision. Divert from this route if possible."
