Female prison officer, 20s, hospitalised after being attacked by inmate in Cloverhill

A female prison officer was attacked by an inmate in a Dublin prison after trying to break up a fight between prisoners.

The incident happened in Cloverhill on Tuesday morning with the woman, 20s, requiring hospital treatment after the attack.

Dublin Live understands a fight broke out among inmates with the woman being hurt while breaking it up.

A spokesperson for the prison service confirmed the incident saying gardai are now investigating.

They told Dublin Live: "The Prison Service can confirm an assault on an Officer in Cloverhill Prison on the 07/05/2019 and this incident has been referred to An Garda Síochána. The Irish Prison Service is also carrying out an internal investigation."
