Victorian jockey Jessie Philpot says she is still coming to terms with her history-making win at this year's Darwin Cup.
After winning her last six races, Philpot made it seven wins in a row on Monday, riding Highly Decorated past the finish line to become the first female jockey to win the Cup.
It was also the first time an all-female team of jockey, trainer and owner had won.
More than 10,000 people watched on at the Fannie Bay Racing Club as Philpot won the $200,000 race by a comfortable distance.
Kangaroo Island resident Donna Stephenson is the owner of the prize-winning horse, and trainer Nicole Bruggemann was tasked with training the thoroughbred for the major race.
Bruggemann said it was the biggest achievement of her career.
Bruggemann said she had seen the sport change over time and wanted this win to help more women believe they could do anything in the sport.
"It was a little bit harder then," she said. "I think girls are making a little bit more of an impact now."
Philpot said she was inspired by fellow female jockey Michelle Payne, who became the first woman to win the Melbourne Cup, in 2015.
"There's some big female jockeys like Michelle Payne that won the Melbourne Cup and Jamie Kah's done an amazing job," she said.
And while Philpot may have been the first to win the Darwin Cup, she said she hoped her effort proved she would not be the last.
