Female jockey airlifted to hospital after racecourse incident

RESPONSE: The Westpac Rescue Helicopter transported the woman.

A female jockey suffered serious head, chest and facial injuries when she was crushed by a horse at a Mid North Coast racecourse on Saturday.

Paramedics were called to the Manning Valley Race Club on Racecourse Road in Taree about 8.30am.

They commenced treatment on the 32-year-old woman before NSW Ambulance tasked the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to the site shortly before 9am.

The woman was stabilised on scene by the service's critical care medical team before being flown to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

The incident occurred during jump outs - a training activity.

A Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service spokesman said the woman had been "crushed" by the horse.
