Female driver cut from vehicle following Lake Macquarie car crash

A woman had to be cut from her vehicle following a car crash in Lake Macquarie that caused havoc around school pickup on Tuesday.

At 2.10pm, a Hyundai SUV crashed into a parked Mitsubishi Triton on Park Avenue at Caves Beach.

Swansea High School and Caves Beach Public School are located nearby.

A passenger in the SUV was able to remove themself from the vehicle, but the female driver, believed to be aged in her 40s, was trapped after the car rolled on its side.

Lake Macquarie police, the NSW Ambulance and Fire and Rescue NSW attended the scene.

A spokesperson from Fire and Rescue NSW confirmed the driver was cut from the vehicle after 20 minutes.

The driver and passenger of the SUV were taken by ambulance to the John Hunter Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Park Avenue was closed to southbound traffic, with motorists diverted along Strathmore Road.
