Female cyclist dies after collision with car near Highbridge

A woman has died following a collision between a cyclist and a car on a Somerset country road near Highbridge.

Police confirmed the collision occurred on Thursday (September 17) on the B3139 between Mark and Blackford, at shortly before 6.30pm.

The woman, who was cycling on the road between Highbridge and Wedmore, was involved in a collision with a car.

A road closure was put in place while police investigated, while they were joined at the scene by parademics and the air ambulance.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the woman's family had been informed and appealed to anyone who had any information about the crash to come forward.

A statement said: "We were called to a collision involving a car and a cyclist on Thursday 17 September in Mark Road, between Mark and Blackford, at approximately 6.25pm.

"Police, paramedics and the air ambulance service attended the scene and a road closure was put in place to facilitate a collision investigation.

"Sadly the female cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family have been informed.

"Enquiries are continuing. Witnesses can report information on 101, giving reference 5220211988."
