Felon gets 7 years for illegally possessing semi-automatic handgun

Drayton was previously convicted of multiple felonies, including two shootings.

A convicted felon was sentenced to prison Monday for illegally owning a gun and pointing it at two people who were in a car with a child.

Anthony Drayton, 37, of Berwyn, pleaded guilty last year to one count of illegal possession of a firearm by a felon, according to a statement from the U.S Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Illinois. He was sentenced to seven years and three months in prison by U.S. District Judge John Z. Lee.

On Feb. 27, 2018, Drayton approached a vehicle outside of a convenience store in the Austin neighborhood and pointed a semi-automatic handgun at two people in the front seat, prosecutors said.

He lowered the gun and walked away after the pair told him a 4-year-old was in the car, prosecutors said. Drayton was arrested nearby shortly after cops were called.

He was on parole at the time of the incident for previous felony convictions, including two shootings, prosecutors said. Daryton was not legally allowed to own a gun.
