Fellow NYC point guard Kenny Anderson’s a fan of Kemba Walker in Boston

Former Boston Celtics floor general Kenny Anderson is happy to see fellow New York point guard Kemba Walker succeeding with the Celtics, a team he spent parts of five seasons playing for between 1998 and 2002.

Along with teammates Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker, Anderson was one of the few bright spots from that era, the lean years of the so-called “wilderness era” after the original “Big Three” of Larry Bird, Robert Parish and Kevin McHale had retired.

That his one-time team was once again fronted by a floor general out of the five boroughs had the journeyman distributor excited in an interview with Heavy.com’s Brendan “Scoop B” Robinson on the “Heavy Live With Scoop B Show“.

“I love Kemba Walker; he’s from New York! I’m never going to disrespect a New York player. I’m just never going to do that,” explained the Georgia Tech product.

“He’s one of my favorite players of all time. Kemba Walker is just an awesome talent, and he will get better playing with the Celtics with Jayson Tatum. He’s another star there, they got my man there who’s another star, Jaylen Brown…they’re going to be tough man, for many years come.”

“They’re going to be good, man,” says Anderson.

“They’re going to be good. I love to see it — Kemba is awesome, man. He’s an awesome talent, an awesome player and just a good guy.”

While Walker needs to take the start of the next season slow with the quick turnaround and a sometimes-balky knee, the UConn product had one of his best seasons and by far his deepest playoff run in his first campaign with Boston.

And the synergy between the trio of players noted by Anderson and veteran defensive menace Marcus Smart may well carry them even further in 2020-21.
