Felling Bypass reopened after overturned lorry cleared

An overturned lorry on the Felling Bypass near Gateshead caused disruption to traffic as police sealed off the area.

The lorry blocked both lanes and emergency services were called on Thursday night.

Traffic was diverted as Northumbria Police closed the bypass whilst Tyne and Wear Fire Service attended to check for potential diesel spillage and oversee clearance of the obstructing HGV.

Police reopened the bypass at around 11pm and thanked the public for their patience during the traffic disruption.

Northumbria Police tweeted at 11.30pm: "Our officers including @Tyne_Wear_FRS have been busy dealing with an overturned lorry on the Felling Bypass in #Gateshead.

"A full closure - which was in place to allow recovery to take place - has now been lifted.

"We would like to thank the public for their patience."
