Felix Project: Los Mochis donates one million meals to help fight London hunger

Hungry: the restaurant group has partnered with the food charity since 2022 - (Lucy Young)

The Japanese-Mexican restaurant Los Mochis has donated its one millionth meal to the Felix Project as part of a three-year collaboration with the charity.

The restaurant, which has sites in Notting Hill and Liverpool Street, has supported the Felix Project since 2022 and its latest donation is the equivalent of 589,261 meals.

With food insecurity in the UK continuing to rise – government figures suggest poverty now impacts as many as 7.5 million people – the London charity works to provide meals to those in need.

As part of the efforts, restaurants help with the redistribution of unused food, or, in the case of Los Mochis, add an option to add a “meal for a meal” on the bill.

The charity’s Marcus Roberts said: “We are delighted to be working closely with the awesome restaurant Los Mochis on their ‘Meal for a Meal’ initiative over the last four years.

“This latest donation of the equivalent of 589,261 meals will take their contribution to a whopping one million meals which is just incredible and makes such a significant contribution to our work getting good food to people who need it. We are extremely grateful [to Los Mochis].”

Los Mochis founder Markus Thesleff has been supporting the Felix Project since setting up the Thesleff Group and its donations go towards schools and other organisations in some of London’s most disadvantaged and deprived areas.

“We believe in hospitality that goes beyond the four walls of our restaurants,” he said.

“Working with The Felix Project has allowed us to play a small but powerful part in a much bigger story, one of community, compassion, and action. We’re proud to have hit one million meals, and we’re only just getting started.”

The one million milestone was celebrated with a lunch at Los Mochis in Notting Hill with Melissa Hemsley and David Morrissey, Felix Project ambassadors, supporter Lady Amelia Windsor, and many more.

The Felix Project currently delivers the equivalent of over 30 million meals a year to more than 1,200 frontline organisations. Support is needed. thefelixproject.org
