Felipe Anderson speaks out on loan move to Porto and why he still has hopes for West Ham future

Felipe Anderson has said that joining Porto was the right decision for him and West Ham after securing a season-long loan to the Portuguese outfit.

Anderson has two years left on his deal in east London but has found himself out of favour under David Moyes since lockdown and heading into the 2020/21 season.

Anderson, who was the club’s previous record signing when he joined the club from Lazio for £42million in the summer of 2018, has made just two substitute appearances for the Hammers in the Premier League this season though he had started all three of the Carabao Cup ties.

Having lost his place in the side to Pablo Fornals and regular football looking unlikely in east London, Anderson has made the temporary move to Portugal and football.london understands there is no permanent option for Porto to buy him once the season is done.

Speaking on talkSport after his switch to the continent was confirmed on Tuesday night, Anderson said he was frustrated at not being able to contribute but still holds hope for the future in east London.

“I am sad for not being able to help the team how I would have liked,”the Brazilian winger said.

Sam Inkersole delivers deadline day verdict

“It is a good opportunity for me. When I came here I had a goal and it has been frustrating but I understand that everything has changed with the coronavirus as well. I know I have a lot to show.

“I have a contract with West Ham so next season I need to do my best to come back stronger.

“I think it was the right decision for both sides right now so I need to do my best to come back stronger.

“[Do you want to come back?] Yes of course because I have still two years and maybe one more in my contract. This season I did not start the way that I wanted to in playing to help the team.

“I am motivated. I know that I am thankful to my mates and managers but I just want to play. I believe this was a good decision for both sides.”
