Felipe Anderson going through 'toughest phase' of West Ham career and admits: 'I have to improve'

West Ham midfielder Felipe Anderson says his performances this season have not been good enough and admits he is going through his toughest spell since joining the club for £36million in 2018.

The Brazilian had an impressive debut season in England after signing from Lazio last year, but he has struggled this term.

“For sure, this is the worst phase I have been going through with the team,” said Anderson.

“When I arrived it was hard, but we started winning and I started to show my potential by helping the team with goals, assists and dribbles, and right now things are not working out as we want.

“I have to improve to be able to help the team. If I do not score and the team wins, I am happy, but if I do not score and the team loses and I could not help, it is difficult.

"But we need to keep on working hard and think positively.”

The Hammers are one point above the relegation zone after one win in 11 matches and manager Manuel Pellegrini could be sacked if they lose at Southampton on Saturday.

Anderson added: “What we really need is a little confidence.”
