Felicity Kendal's partner nearly died of Covid with hospital staff 'at wits' end'

Felicity Kendal has revealed that her partner almost died of coronavirus.

The Good Life actress, 74, said her long-term partner Michael Rudman, 82, was treated in hospital for Covid, which she called a "scary time".

Speaking to the Camden New Journal, Felicity said: "I think I can speak for a lot of people about the fear being huge, and the frustration being a real hardship.

"That feeling that you don't know what state your loved one is in, and knowing you still can't go and see them – it's not like anything you've experienced before.

"It was just such a scary time.

"Michael is in his 80s."

Felicity confessed she really felt for all the hospital staff who are working during the pandemic and having to see so many people die.

She said she could tell the hospital staff "were at their wits' end".

The TV star added: "I thought of their distress at having to be mother, father, grandfather – and look after people who are seriously ill.

"And they are in some ways as isolated as the patients.

"It's not just going the extra mile – they are running a marathon every day."

Kendal also said patients' "support system has been taken away" amid the pandemic.

Elderly people are more likely to suffer severe coronavirus symptoms.

The over-80s were the first group prioritised for the vaccine, followed by the over-70s.
