'Feeling the love': Ogilvie thinking about her future

Former Denison Labor member Madeleine Ogilvie is thinking about her political future.

Conservative ousted Labor MP Madeleine Ogilvie isn't ruling out a political comeback at the Upper House election for Hobart.

Legislative Council elections for Hobart and the newly-created seat of Prosser will be held in May.

Despite Labor's success in picking up the Upper House seats of Pembroke and Rumney last year, increasing its voting block in the independent-dominated Legislative Council to four, the party won't endorse a candidate in Hobart.

Labor endorsed former Lyons candidate Janet Lambert for Prosser, who narrowly missed out on a spot in the lower house seat Lyons to Jen Butler.

"We hope that they are able to look to another progressive candidate," Labor leader Rebecca White said.

"Our priority is to properly resource and support Janet in her campaign."

That means any Labor-affiliated candidates would have to run in Hobart as an independent.

Madeleine Ogilvie, who was un-seated by the union and left faction-backed Ella Haddad, said she had received a lot of phone calls of support from people.

"I've been feeling the love but I'm not ready to rule things in or out yet," she said.

"I am giving a lot of thought to my future in political life."

Ms Ogilvie has clashed with her party's left faction over her views on euthanasia and same-sex marriage.

The seat of Hobart has been held by independent MLC Rob Valentine since 2012.

Mr Valentine said anybody had the opportunity to run for the seat.

"You never second-guess the people, and I think it's important we have a good election campaign, and we have various people putting their hand up and that's good for democracy," he said.

Former Labor Denison candidates Tim Cox and Zelinda Sherlock have ruled out contesting the Hobart seat.

The Liberal party's endorsed former Denison candidate Simon Beharkis for Hobart.

Also in the running so far is Richard Griggs, from Civil Liberties Austraila, and the Shooters and Fishers and Farmers Party's Brenton Hext.
