It’s not even summer yet – but many parts of Australia are experiencing temperatures in excess of 30C.

Many states were experiencing a heatwave on Thursday, with severe to extreme conditions continuing in the Top End of Australia and low intensity in much of New South Wales, the northern parts of Western Australia, northern Victoria and southern Queensland.

With the hot weather expected to continue into the weekend, the Bureau of Meteorology has issued fire danger warnings for several states.

The bureau’s monthly and seasonal climate outlook from November 2015 to January 2016 predicts higher temperatures for much of the country, particularly coastal areas of southern and eastern Australia, which it attributes to a combination of the strong El Nino weather event in the Pacific and the very warm Indian Ocean.

Whether you’re welcoming the higher temperatures or dreading the onset of summer, we’d like to hear what the warm weather means for you, wherever in Australia are. Share your stories, photos or videos with us via GuardianWitness and we’ll feature some in our reporting.
