Feeling the heat

The sun beams down as commuters walk near JR Tokyo Station on Friday as a high-pressure system hit Japan, pushing the mercury up in the morning hours to a midsummer-like level nationwide. High temperatures are expected to peak on Sunday and continue early into the week. The Japan Meteorological Agency also issued heatstroke warnings. The temperature reached 30.2 C at noon in central Tokyo, exceeding 30 C for the first time this year, according to the agency.
