'Feed Glasgow' Authentic restaurant Mrs Falafel launches care box distribution campaign to help feed the homeless

An authentic restaurant in Glasgow are putting home deliveries on hold to distribute care packages to those in need.

Woodlands-based takeaway Mrs Falafel were inspired to launch 'Feed Glasgow' after seeing how many people were queuing outside one of the city’s busy soup kitchens.

The family-run business will be providing 200 packages which staff will hand out in George Square from 12pm-4pm on Friday, April 2.

Mrs Falafel was founded on the much-loved family recipes of founder and director Ahmed Abutoq’s mum Abeer, renowned for feeding and nourishing her family and friends throughout the years.

The Feed Glasgow initiative is inspired by memories of her welcoming others into her home and making sure they always had enough on their plates.

Ahmed Abutoq, Founder & Director of Mrs Falafel, said: "The pandemic has taught me that a lot of the people of Glasgow - including myself - are a lot more fortunate than we think and have a lot more than we actually need.

"By doing stuff like this and making the effort to help people in need, it will brush off onto other people. For me at Feed Glasgow, this will be the first of many.”

The boxes which will include food, clothing, sleeping bags and toiletries have been made in collaboration with a string of local companies.

They include popular bar Bananamoon, Made By Mellow craft gift company, Deryk Walker Studio, ROK marketing agency and hand sanitiser specialists Hapi Hands.

Trespass, Poundland, Dunns Food & Drink, Sainsburys and Tesco have also supported Friday’s Feed Glasgow event by providing donations to help ensure everyone who turns up on the day is fed.
