Feds serve another subpoena on town regarding consultant with deep ties to Mike Madigan

Federal prosecutors served the village of Bridgeview with a subpoena in recent days, looking for records on a consultant with deep ties to Illinois House Speaker Michael J. Madigan.

The subpoena was nearly identical to one served last Friday on the southwest suburb of Merrionette Park, seeking records on Raymond T. Nice — a longtime campaign worker for Madigan’s Southwest Side Democratic organization who became an “independent contractor” for the village of Merrionette Park in 2015, according to a source.

Nice also does economic development work for Bridgeview’s municipal government.

The southwest suburb’s mayor, Steve Landek, doubles as a state senator, and is a longtime ally of Madigan.

Both subpoenas not only seek information on what kind of work Nice did for the communities, but also any communications with Madigan and his inner political circle, the source said.

Like Madigan ally Michael McClain, Nice served as a lobbyist for ComEd, which is a focus of a federal corruption investigation.

That investigation is examining, at least in part, if Madigan put the arm on the utility giant — which the Legislature helps regulate — to hire certain lobbyists who then allegedly did little or no work.
