Federico Fernandez removes critical tweet after Newcastle United fail to keep Rafa Benitez

Federico Fernandez has deleted a social media post which appeared on his Twitter account shortly after the club announced Rafa Benitez's departure from St James' Park.

Benitez's spell as boss came to an end on Monday lunchtime and Fernandez revealed his disappointment afterwards.

He had said: "Thanks Rafa.

"I think you and the staff deserved a different way to end your time as a Newcastle manager.

"All the people around Newcastle love you.

"All the best for the future."

Paco de Míguel Moreno, Antonio Gómez Pérez and Mikel Antia also left the club on Monday.

United have made no further public comments after releasing their statement , which read: "We would also like to thank our supporters, players and staff for their patience during a period of uncertainty.

"The process to appoint a successor will now begin."

Benitez is yet to respond to the public but is likely to chose to do so via his own statement after June 30.
