Federico Fernandez ready for the final seven games of the season after Covid and injury hell

Federico Fernandez believes that Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin have provided the Magpies with the perfect boost going into the clash with West Ham.

Confidence within the United camp is now high after two games unbeaten, but Newcastle are still not safe at this point and if they want to fend off the threat of relegation early they need to take something from the West Ham game.

The centre-back returned to action against Burnley and starred in the 2-1 win, and is now looking ahead to taking on the Hammers.

Fernandez said: "We're happy to see them both back.

"They are having a big impact in the game.

"You can see the quality and the pace and their understanding in the final third."

Fernandez is now fit again after missing nine matches through Covid then a thigh problem.

The former Napoli man tried to battle back early but is hoping to be involved in the final seven games of the Premier League season.

The ex-Swansea man, speaking to NUFC TV, said: "I had Covid then a month later I got injured.

"I needed to deal with it.

"I tried my best to get back soon but sometimes it's doesn't work.

"You need to be patient and now I feel better and concentrated on the remaining games."
