Federico Chiesa insists that he wants to stay at Liverpool despite a struggle for game time.
The Italian moved to Anfield in 2024, coming in as ex-manager Arne Slot’s first signing.
Since then, however, he has struggled for regular first-team minutes on Merseyside, and last term, he played 26 times in the Premier League, but made just one start.
Liverpool finished fourth in the table in a campaign where Slot was surprisingly sacked, having won the title in his debut season.
Chiesa scored just three goals in all competitions last season, but he is hoping for a fresh start under new boss Andoni Iraola.
The winger had been linked with a move back to his native Italy for much of the previous campaign amid a struggle for starts.
"I am doing the best I can to have a chance here - and then we will see,” he said.
"At the minute, the only thing I am thinking about is Liverpool."
"I don't know - it is difficult to say [if it is a fresh start under Iraola]. It is always a fresh start at the beginning of the year.
"Maybe there have been too many fresh starts. But I don't care, I am trying to do my best for this new manager. Last season under Arne Slot, I was trying to do my best too.
"Last year, I felt ready for a bigger role, then it depended on the coach whether he wanted me to play or not. Of course I wanted to play more but it is what it is.
"The gaffer decided to do so, he had his gameplans, he took his decisions, I have nothing to say about that. It is football. This year, let us say it is a new chapter. There is a new manager and I have to focus on that."
Liverpool are looking to sign another winger after star man Mohamed Salah left upon the expiration of his contract.
The Reds have already signed Victor Munoz from Osasuna, while they held a strong interest in RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, although the Ivorian teenager looks destined for Real Madrid.
As such, it gives Chiesa an opening to try and exploit as the Merseysiders embark on a new chapter and look to challenge back at the top of the Premier League.
