Australian federal police have raided the electoral office of the NSW Labor MP for Wollongong, Noreen Hay.
An AFP spokesman confirmed officers searched a Wollongong property on Wednesday after receiving a referral from the Australian Electoral Commission relating to alleged electoral fraud.
The spokesman declined to confirm whether the raid related to Hay. The ABC reported the referral was received on 8 December.
A spokesman for Labor leader Luke Foley’s office said Hay had informed him of the search.
“We understand the member and her office have offered the AFP every assistance in the investigation,” a spokesman said in a statement, the ABC reported.
Details of the allegations remained unclear.
