Constitutional lawyer Stephen Donaghue QC has been reappointed as solicitor-general for a second term.
Attorney-General Michaelia Cash announced on Friday that Dr Donaghue had been reappointed to the position for another five years.
As the second law officer of the Commonwealth, the solicitor-general is the government's primary legal counsel and provides advice particularly on constitutional and other public law matters.
Dr Donaghue was first appointed solicitor-general in December 2016 by former attorney-general George Brandis.
In a written statement Senator Cash said he had served the Commonwealth ably and provided trusted advice on key government policies.
